What ISO 9001 is
ISO 9001 sets out the requirements for a quality management system: understanding context and customers, defining processes and responsibilities, controlling suppliers, handling non-conformities and improving continuously based on data.
It is not a paperwork exercise: it formalises what the organisation already does well, plus the controls needed so results no longer depend on specific individuals.

The Angolan context

Implementation, step by step
Initial assessment: comparison between what the organisation already does and what the standard requires, identifying the gaps. Scope and context: definition of the activities and sites covered, the interested parties and the applicable requirements.
Process and risk map: process sequence, indicators and risks that may compromise results. Documentation: quality policy, procedures, work instructions and records, in the simplest format that serves the operation.
Training and go-live: teams start working under the system. Internal audit and management review: verification of effectiveness and correction of non-conformities. Pre-audit: a rehearsal of the certification audit, before the real one.
The two-stage certification audit
The certification audit runs in two stages: stage 1 checks whether the system is designed, documented and the organisation is ready; stage 2 checks on site whether the system is applied and effective. After certification there are surveillance audits and, at the end of the cycle, a recertification.
We prepare the company for both stages, including handling any non-conformities raised by the audit team.
ISO 9001 and other standards
ISO 9001 shares the high-level structure with ISO 14001 (environment), ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety), ISO 27001 (information security) and ISO 50001 (energy). When a company needs more than one, the system can be integrated: a single manual, a joint internal audit and one management review.

- How long does ISO 9001 certification take?
- It depends on the size of the organisation, the number of sites and the maturity of current processes. A realistic timeline is always given in the proposal, after the initial assessment.
- How much does certification cost?
- There are two distinct components: preparation, delivered by Export Lab, and the certification audit, billed by the certification body. We do not work with list prices: the value depends on scope and starting point, and is presented in writing before any commitment.
- Does Export Lab issue the certificate?
- No, and that is deliberate. Export Lab prepares and implements; the certification audit is conducted independently by DQS. Whoever prepares cannot certify, and that separation is what gives the certificate its value.
- My company is small. Does it make sense?
- The standard imposes neither a minimum size nor a volume of documentation. In a small organisation the system is proportionally simpler, and it is often exactly what allows entry into supply chains that require certification.
- Can we certify only part of the company?
- Yes. The certification scope is defined by activities and sites, and may cover one unit, one business line or the whole organisation. The scope is stated on the certificate.
